HOW WE HELP

The records behind
your annual work.

For SMSF trustees who need help with the fund’s accounting and administration, or have a change to discuss.

KPA reviews source documents, completes accounting data entry and prepares the information needed for the annual accounts and return. You deal with the same individual through KPA’s accounting process, with regular contact about the work and any information needed.

  1. 01 / REVIEW & RECORD

Work through source documents, accounting data and missing information.

Prepare the annual accounting work and coordinate the independent audit.

  3. 03 / REPORT

KEY CONSIDERATIONS

Support does not replace trustee responsibility.

Trustees remain responsible for the fund’s compliance and record keeping, even when a professional helps with administration. Keep financial records and documents recording trustee decisions. We discuss what KPA will handle and what information and actions are needed from you.

BEFORE WE TALK

A useful starting point.

Tell us how your fund is currently administered, the financial year involved and any changes to members, trustees, investments or payments.

Contact KPA before sending financial records or sensitive documents.

Records to have in mind

  • Fund and trustee details, including the trust deed and any changes
  • Previous financial statements, annual returns and audit reports
  • Bank, investment and transaction statements for the year
  • Contribution, rollover, pension and other benefit-payment records
  • Income and expense records with supporting documents
  • Trustee minutes, decisions and the existing investment strategy
  • Details of property, borrowing or other complex arrangements, where relevant

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you enquire.

Can the annual accounts and return be included?

Yes. Financial statements, the SMSF annual return and independent audit arrangements can be discussed alongside administration. We agree the scope and responsibilities at the start.

Will I deal with the same person?

KPA’s approach is for you to deal with the same individual through its accounting process, with consistent and regular contact. The independent auditor performs a separate role.

Can you help if I am considering a new SMSF?

Discuss the accounting and administration involved in establishing a fund with KPA. Personal advice on whether an SMSF suits you, investment selection and financial strategies requires an appropriately licensed financial adviser. KPA can arrange for a financial adviser to provide a statement of advice.

What about property, contributions or pension changes?

Raise these early so the tax, accounting and reporting questions can be identified. Recommendations about investments, borrowing or financial strategies require the relevant specialist advice; no particular tax or investment outcome is assumed.
